Honda Civic, City beat Toyota Yaris in August car sales

September 10, 2021(MLN): The sale of passenger cars has surged by 80% YoY to clock in at 17,899 units during the month of August 2021 as compared to 9,885 units sold in August 2020.

This healthy growth in volumes is mainly attributed to the lower car prices following the announcement of duty and tax relief in the federal budget fiscal year 22, which came into effect in July.

This brought the cumulative sales for 2MFY22 at 38,568 units, which is higher by a whopping 93% as compared to the same period of last year.

According to a monthly report released by Pakistan Automotive Manufacturers Association (PAMA), the total production of passenger cars was recorded at 17,393 units in August 2021.

Going by the report, the maximum number of sales were made within the '1300 cc and Above' category at 7,247 units, up by around 53%YoY. Within this category, Honda Cars (Civic and City) beat Toyota Yaris as it recorded the highest sales at 2,726 units while later registered the sales of 2,025 units. This was followed by Toyota Corolla, Hyundai Elantra, Suzuki Swift and Hyundai Sonata which sold 1,942, 258, 154 and 142 units, respectively.

The second-highest number of sales was made within the 'Below 1000cc' category at 6,128 units i.e. 2.04x YoY. In this segment, Suzuki Alto recorded the highest sales at 5,032 units, followed by Suzuki Bolan that sold 1,097 units in the month of August 2021.

Similarly, the '1000 cc' category also witnessed a volumetric growth of nearly 2x YoY to clock in at 4,524 units. Within this category, Suzuki Cultus recorded the highest sales at 2,845 units, followed by Suzuki WagonR which sold 1,679 units.

The total sale of Trucks during the month stood at 553 units, up by 2.5 times YoY. Isuzu emerged as the best-selling truck, with sales of around 289 units during the month, followed by MASTER with 165 units. HINO and JAC made sales of 77 units and 22 units, respectively.

The overall sale of buses was recorded at 50 units, which signifies a decrease of 18% as compared to the same period last year. Within this segment, MASTER made the maximum sales at 30 units while Isuzu and Hino recorded sales of 11 and 9 units, respectively during the month of August 2021.

Cumulatively, total sales of Truck and Buses during the month clocked in at 603 units against the production of 552 units.
