Weekly SPI inches up by 0.33%

Weekly inflation increases by 0.11%

June 23, 2023 (MLN): The Weekly Sensitive Price Indicator (SPI) for the Combined Group increased by 0.33% during the week ended June 22, 2023, while the SPI increased by 34.05% compared to the corresponding period from last year.

According to data released by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) the Combined Index was at 256 compared to 255.17 on June 15, 2023, while the index was recorded at 190.98 a year ago, on June 26, 2022

Out of the 51 monitored items, the average price of 20 items increased, 12 items decreased whereas 19 items registered no change during the week.

The weekly SPI percentage change by income groups showed that SPI increased across all quantiles ranging between 0.2% and 0.53%.

The Lowest Income Group witnessed a weekly increase of 0.52% while the highest income group recorded an increase of 0.2%.

On a yearly basis, analysis of SPI change across different income segments showed that SPI increased across all quantiles ranging between 33.48% and 35.47%.

Yearly SPI for the Lowest Income Group increased by 33.48% while the highest income group recorded an increase of 34.56%.

The average price of Sona urea stood at Rs.3021 per 50 kg bag which is 0.23% lower than last week’s price and 41.3% higher when compared to last year.

Meanwhile, the average cement price was recorded at Rs.1145 per 50 kg bag, which is 0.09% higher than the previous week and 12.25% higher than prices last year.
