LSMI output increases by 2.04% YoY

May 15, 2024 (MLN): Pakistan’s Large-scale Scale Manufacturing Industries (LSMI) production increased by 2.04% YoY in March 2024 to stand at 115.53 compared to 113.21 in March 2023, the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) reported today.

Meanwhile, on a sequential basis, the LSMI output fell significantly by 9.35% MoM against 127.44 recorded in February 2024.

Cumulatively in 9MFY24, LSMI has shown a decline of 0.1% when compared with the same period of last year.

In 9MFY24, the main contributors towards overall growth of -0.10% are, Food (0.31), Tobacco (-0.66), Textile (-1.47) Garments (0.77), Paper & Board (-0.05), Petroleum Products (0.31), Chemicals (0.60), Pharmaceuticals (1.08), Iron & Steel Products (-0.11), Electrical Equipment (-0.24), Automobiles (-1.01) and Furniture (0.60).

The production in July-March 2023-24 as compared to July-March 2022-23 has increased in Food, Wearing apparel, Coke & Petroleum Products, Chemicals, Fertilizers, Pharmaceuticals, Machinery and Equipment and Furniture.

Meanwhile, it decreased in Tobacco, Textile, Paper & Board, Non Metallic Mineral Products, Iron & Steel Products, Electrical Equipment, Automobiles and Other Transport Equipment.

The provisional quantum indices of Large Scale Manufacturing Industries (LSMI) for March, 2024 with base year 2015-16 have been developed on the basis of latest data supplied by the source agencies.
