December 18, 2023 (MLN): Advocating for fiscal responsibility in governance, Anwar Kashif Mumtaz, President of the Pakistan Tax Bar Association (PTBA)on Monday called upon the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to take a stern stance against tax non-filers contesting for political office.
During a press conference, Kashif Mumtaz asserted that those evading their fiscal obligations must not be permitted to vie for positions of power and decision-making within the nation.
He also underscored the critical importance of contributing to the national exchequer. He further stressed that allowing non-filers to partake in elections not only weakens the spirit of responsible governance but also publicizes a culture of non-compliance.
To note, the upcoming general elections are scheduled to be held on February 8, 2024.
The Election Commission's unveiled timetable unveils crucial milestones preceding the upcoming elections. As per the outlined schedule, candidates will have a window to submit their nomination papers from December 20 to 22.
By December 23, the anticipated roster of candidates will be disclosed, marking the initiation of subsequent phases encompassing scrutiny and appeals.
