October 25, 2023 (MLN): The benchmark KSE-100 Index closed Wednesday's trading session at 51,177.13 showing an increase of 149.19 points or 0.29%.

Bulls took charge again in today’s session, however, investors' anticipation of the upcoming central bank’s decision on the policy rate and October’s inflation data, which are due next week, kept the gains in check.

Moreover, market participants are closely monitoring the upcoming review of the International Monetary Fund (IMF)’s standby arrangement (SBA), which if remains successful, will pave the way for a $700 million installment.

The index traded in a range of 460.53 points showing an intraday high of 51,483.85 (+455.91) and a low of 51,023.31 (-4.63) points.

The total volume of the KSE-100 Index was 215.696 million shares.

Of the 100 index companies 47 closed up, 38 closed down, 3 were unchanged, while 12 remained untraded.

KSE-100 index was supported by Commercial Banks with 92.01, Technology & Communication with 88.78, Cement with 66.41, Oil & Gas Marketing Companies with 43.84, and Chemical with 15.11 points.

Companies adding points to the index were SYS with 90.78, BAHL with 87.89, PSO with 44.41, FCCL with 23.81, and DGKC with 15.16 points.

KSE-100 Index was let down by Fertilizer with 147.89, Oil & Gas Exploration Companies with 40.15, Automobile Parts & Accessories with 9.47, Property with 7.56, and Food & Personal Care Products with 4.3 points.

FFC stripped off the most points from the KSE-100 index amid announcing a dividend of Rs3.98 per share, lower than the industry’s expectations despite strong earnings.

Accordingly, companies dragging the index lower were FFC with 74.07, EFERT with 33.87, ENGRO with 32.24, HBL with 29.22 and MARI with 26.14 points.

In the broader market, the All-Share index closed at 34,005.83 with a net gain of 134.83 points.

Total market volume was 427.394 million shares compared to 321.404 from the previous session while traded value was recorded at Rs15.51 billion showing an increase of Rs4.42bn.

There were 175,587 trades reported in 349 companies with 174 closing up, 159 closing down and 16 remaining unchanged.

To note, the KSE-100 has gained 9,724 points or 23.46% during the fiscal year, whereas the ongoing calendar year has witnessed a cumulative increase of 10,757 points, equivalent to 26.61% in the KSE-100.
