CPI Preview: Inflation to fall to around 17% YoY in April

Mar 18, 2021 (MNL): The Benchmark KSE100 index ended the trading session on Thursday with a 726.22 point or 1.60 percent decline to close at 44,724.09 level.

The recovery rally was abruptly halted as profit-taking dampened the sentiment. General caution over the monetary policy which is expected to be announced tomorrow and the start of a rollover week were the two main concerns today, Topline Securities said.

The Index traded in a range of 974.06 points or 2.14 percent of the previous close, showing an intraday high of 45,615.35 and a low of 44,641.29.

Of the 95 traded companies in the KSE100 Index, 11 closed up 79 closed down, while 5 remained unchanged. The total volume traded for the index was 299.93 million shares.

Sector-wise, the index was let down by Technology & Communication with 118 points, Commercial Banks with 112 points, Oil & Gas Exploration Companies with 87 points, Cement with 86 points and Oil & Gas Marketing Companies with 48 points.

The most points taken off the index was by TRG which stripped the index of 101 points followed by ENGRO with 47 points, PSO with 35 points, PPL with 34 points and BAHL with 33 points.

The most points added to the index was by FFC which contributed 16 points followed by EPCL with 10 points, INDU with 6 points, AGP with 4 points and NESTLE with 3 points.

All Share Volume increased by 43.68 Million to 554.07 Million Shares. Market Cap decreased by Rs.121.47 Billion.

Total companies traded were 407 compared to 415 from the previous session. Of the scrips traded 76 closed up, 307 closed down while 24 remained unchanged.

Total trades increased by 1,186 to 179,400.

Value Traded decreased by 1.10 Billion to Rs.23.70 Billion
