January 19, 2024 (MLN): Following diplomatic efforts to ease tensions with Iran, Pakistan’s stock market witnessed a strong recovery right from the opening bell on Friday.

The benchmark KSE-100 index surged as much as 710 points during the day before witnessing selling pressure near the 64,000 level.

Despite the initial boost, investors remained cautious, with the index ultimately settling at 63,282.23 with a marginal gain of 79.83 points or 0.13%.

The index remained positive throughout the day, showing an intraday high of 63,911.86 (+709.46) and a low of 63,214.86 (+12.46) points.

The total volume of the KSE-100 index was 145.874 million shares.

Advancers to decliners remained equally distributed, with 44 companies closing up and 45 closing down.

Meanwhile 4 were unchanged and 7 remained untraded.

KSE-100 index was supported by Fertilizer with 65.16, Oil & Gas Exploration Companies with 23.39, Automobile Assembler with 19.3, Inv. Banks / Inv. Cos. / Securities Cos. with 13.74, and Commercial Banks with 12.92 points.

On the contrary, the index was let down by Technology & Communication with 18.61, Refinery with 12.43, Oil & Gas Marketing Companies with 12.28, Food & Personal Care Products with 11.77, and Leather & Tanneries with 11.77 points.

Companies adding points to the index were ENGRO with 43.67, MARI with 21.22, FFC with 21.04, MTL with 16.8, and DAWH with 16.37 points.

Meanwhile, companies that dragged the index lower were BAHL with 17.55, SNGP with 15.95, SRVI with 11.77, PTC with 7.73 and NRL with 6.7 points.

In the broader market, the All-Share index closed at 42,859.42 with a net gain of 45.88 points.

Total market volume was 287.284 million shares compared to 445.760 from the previous session while traded value was recorded at Rs9.32 billion showing a decrease of Rs4.92bn.

There were 138,803 trades reported in 339 companies with 160 closing up, 158 closing down and 21 remaining unchanged.

To note, the KSE-100 has gained 21,830 points or 52.66% during the fiscal year, whereas the ongoing calendar year has witnessed a cumulative increase of 831 points, equivalent to 1.33%.
