PSX Closing Bell: Fall Seven Times, Stand Up Eight

February 10, 2025 (MLN): The benchmark KSE-100 Index concluded Monday's trading session at 111,377.96, showing an increase of 1,055.03 points or 0.96%.

The index traded in a range of 1,674.15 points showing an intraday high of 111,622.72 (+1,299.79) and a low of 109,948.57 (-374.36) points.

The total volume of the KSE-100 Index was 193.05 million shares.

Speaking to Mettis Global, Ali Najib Head of Sales at Insight Securities said that investors opted to cherry-pick blue-chip stocks available at an attractive price level offering handsome dividend yield. The aforementioned trend can be attributed to better-than-anticipated corporate announcements in the prevailing result season. 

In addition, the finance ministry’s confirmation regarding IMF conditions where the country has managed to comply with 3 out of 5 major conditions for the first review, also provided further confidence to the investor community, he added.

Of the 100 index companies 60 closed up, 36 closed down, while 4 were unchanged.

Top gainers during the day were ATRL (+10.00%), BOP (+6.97%), HCAR (+6.41%), NRL (+5.48%), and NBP (+5.03%).

On the other hand, top losers were PGLC (-9.38%), POML (-4.93%), PKGS (-2.71%), PKGP (-2.69%), and YOUW (-2.37%).

In terms of index-point contributions, companies that propped up the index were MARI (+142.58pts), ENGROH (+123.85pts), HUBC (+91.28pts), PPL (+82.22pts), and ATRL (+78.72pts).

Meanwhile, companies that dragged the index lower were MCB (-34.47pts), POL (-15.48pts), PKGP (-14.16pts), KOHC (-12.93pts), and PKGS (-11.92pts).

Sector-wise, KSE-100 Index was supported by Oil & Gas Exploration Companies (+260.84pts), Commercial Banks (+130.66pts), Inv. Banks / Inv. Cos. / Securities Cos. (+129.63pts), Refinery (+104.51pts), and Power Generation & Distribution (+92.60pts).

While the index was let down by Paper, Board & Packaging (-11.92pts), Miscellaneous (-7.42pts), Property (-5.24pts), Chemical (-4.36pts), and Textile Composite (-1.15pts).

In the broader market, the All-Share Index closed at 69,157.03 with a net gain of 620.11 points or 0.90%.

Total market volume was 415.16 million shares compared to 299.68m from the previous session while traded value was recorded at Rs23.95 billion showing an increase of Rs8.32bn.

There were 259,909 trades reported in 429 companies with 198 closing up, 172 closing down, and 59 remaining unchanged.

To note, the KSE-100 has gained 32,933 points or 41.98% during the fiscal year, whereas it has decreased 3,749 points or 3.26% so far this calendar year.
