October 09, 2023 (MLN): The equity market swung in both directions in a volatile session on Monday, fluctuating between gains and losses throughout the session.

At close, the benchmark KSE-100 index settled at 47,721.8, up by 0.48% or 228.23 points from the previous close.

To note, this comes after the KSE-100 recorded a gain of 1,260.98 points or 2.73% in the previous week.

The local bourse continues to be supported by the strong performance of the Pakistani Rupee (PKR), which appreciated for the 23rd consecutive session against the US Dollar (USD).

KSE-100 Intraday Performance

The index traded in a range of 557.99 points showing an intraday high of 47,775.73 (+282.16) and a low of 47,217.74 (-275.83) points.

The total volume of the KSE-100 Index was 116.346 million shares.

Of the 100 index companies 38 closed up, 52 closed down, 3 were unchanged, while 7 remained untraded.

KSE-100 index was supported by Commercial Banks with 88.81, Power Generation & Distribution with 78.28, Fertilizer with 66.14, Oil & Gas Exploration Companies with 18.88, and Cement with 18.19 points.

Companies adding points to the index were HUBC with 72.24, FFC with 49.93, BAHL with 40.65, UBL with 33.8, and MCB with 25.74 points.

KSE-100 Index was let down by Inv. Banks / Inv. Cos. / Securities Cos. with 19.99, Technology & Communication with 17.46, Chemical with 15.88, Engineering with 8.44, and Glass & Ceramics with 5.76 points.

Companies dragging the index lower were HBL with 20.29, DAWH with 18.18, COLG with 11.3, TRG with 7.86 and OGDC with 7.11 points.

In the broader market, the All-Share index closed at 31,890.57 with a net gain of 57.71 points.

Total market volume was 233.661 million shares compared to 246.382 from the previous session while traded value being recorded at Rs7.08 billion showing a decrease of Rs0.11bn.

There were 113,405 trades reported in 332 companies with 150 closing up, 166 closing down and 16 remaining unchanged.

To note, the KSE-100 has gained 6,269 points or 15.12% during the fiscal year, whereas the ongoing calendar year has witnessed a cumulative increase of 7,301 points, equivalent to 18.06% in the KSE-100.
