PSX Closing Bell: Confusion and Frustration in Modern Times

May 19, 2023 (MLN): The ongoing political and economic mayhem kept the investors skeptical across the local bourse on Friday which let the benchmark KSE-100 Index add only 157.11 points to settle at 41,599.19. 

The index traded in a range of 274.45 points showing an intraday high of 41,628.78 and a low of 41,354.33. 

Of the 97 traded companies in the KSE100 Index 58 closed up 35 closed down, while 4 remained unchanged. The total volume traded for the index was 54.45 million shares.

Sectors propping up the index were Oil & Gas Exploration Companies with 58 points, Miscellaneous with 23 points, Cement with 19 points, Food & Personal Care Products with 16 points and Pharmaceuticals with 16 points.

The most points added to the index were by PPL which contributed 23 points followed by PSEL with 22 points, POL with 21 points, ENGRO with 15 points, and THALL with 14 points.

Sector-wise, the index was let down by Commercial Banks with 11 points, Power Generation & Distribution with 10 points, Technology & Communication with 8 points, Leather & Tanneries with 4 points, and Modarabas with 2 points.

The most points taken off the index was by UBL which stripped the index of 22 points followed by HUBC with 11 points, BAHL with 9 points, SYS with 8 points and RMPL with 8 points.

All Share Volume increased by 19.06mn to 120.37mn shares. Market Cap increased by Rs45.85 billion.

The total number of companies traded was 315 compared to 306 from the previous session. Of the scrips traded 172 closed up, 115 closed down and 28 remained unchanged.

Total trades decreased by 579 to 66,187.

Value Traded increased by 0.28bn to Rs3.28bn
