October 12, 2023 (MLN): The benchmark KSE-100 Index ended Thursday's trading session at 48,771.71 showing an increase of 297.17 points or 0.61%.

This was the highest daily close since June 07, 2017, when the index closed at 49,527 points.

In today's trading session, the index traded in a range of 470.88 points showing an intraday high of 48,830.26 (+355.72) and a low of 48,359.38 (-115.16) points.

The total volume of the KSE-100 Index was 223.23 million shares.

Of the 100 index companies 51 closed up, 41 closed down, 1 was unchanged, while 7 remained untraded.

KSE-100 index was supported by Fertilizer with 164.17, Power Generation & Distribution with 46.56, Oil & Gas Exploration Companies with 40.1, Pharmaceuticals with 36.14, and Automobile Assembler with 28.11 points.

Companies adding points to the index were EFERT with 67.64, FFC with 56.64, HUBC with 39.8, ENGRO with 36.2, and UBL with 24.29 points.

KSE-100 Index was let down by Technology & Communication with 58.21, Chemical with 10.85, Oil & Gas Marketing Companies with 6.44, Glass & Ceramics with 5.5, and Miscellaneous with 4.97 points.

The negative reports making rounds in the media about TRG, which TRG termed as ‘malicious media campaign’ and ‘misleading and false’, dragged its stock lower and stripped off most points from the KSE-100.

Accordingly, TRG took away 67.12 points from the index, followed by MEBL with 11.03, COLG with 7.56, GHGL with 6.18 and PKGS with 5.53 points.

On the earnings front, EFERT reported its profits for 9MCY23, wherein the company experienced a significant rise of 56.80% YoY in its profitability, earning Rs15.04 billion [EPS: 11.27], the BoD also announced an interim cash dividend at Rs6 per share i.e. 60%.

In the broader market, the All-Share index closed at 32,542.92 with a net gain of 170.76 points.

Total market volume was 342.287 million shares compared to 396.455 from the previous session while traded value was recorded at Rs11.74 billion showing an increase of Rs1.21bn.

There were 145,045 trades reported in 319 companies with 146 closing up, 157 closing down and 16 remaining unchanged.

To note, the KSE-100 has gained 7,319 points or 17.66% during the fiscal year, whereas the ongoing calendar year has witnessed a cumulative increase of 8,351 points, equivalent to 20.66% in the KSE-100.
