PKR appreciates by 36.87 paisa against the US dollar

July 06, 2023 (MLN): The Pakistani rupee (PKR) appreciated by 36.87 paisa against the US dollar in Thursday's interbank session as the currency settled the trade at PKR 277.03 per USD, compared to the previous session's closing of PKR 277.40 per USD.

The currency saw an intraday high (bid) of 277.3 and a low (ask) of 277.1.

In the open market, Exchange Companies quoted the dollar at 279 for buying and 282 for selling.

In comparison to major currencies, PKR gained 1.3 rupees against the Euro, closing at 300.54 compared to the previous value of 301.84.

The British Pound became cheaper by 12.21 paisa closing at 352.22 compared to 352.34 from a day ago.

The Swiss franc saw losses of 41.03 paisa, closing at 308.26 compared to 308.67 from the previous session.

Against the Japanese Yen, PKR lost 0.23 paisa, closing at 1.923 versus 1.921 a day ago.

The Chinese Yuan lost 8.42 paisa, closing at 38.208 against 38.292 from the previous session.

The Saudi Riyal decreased in value by 10.25 paisa from 75.52 a day ago to 75.42.

The U.A.E Dirham closed at 73.85 with a loss of 10.81 paisa from its values of 73.96 a day ago.

During the current financial year, PKR has appreciated against the Dollar by 8.95 rupees or 3.23%. While the current calendar year has seen PKR depreciate by 50.61 Rupees or 18.27%.

In the Money Market, the benchmark 6-Month Karachi Interbank Bid and Offer rates inched up by 1.0 bps to 22.73% and 22.98%.

Furthermore, The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) conducted an Open Market Operation (OMO) through which it injected Rs.411.5 billion for 1 day at 22.05%.
