Money supply approaches Rs51tr in June

July 23, 2026 (MLN): Pakistan's broad money supply (M3) continued to expand in June 2026, posting a fresh monthly increase and extending the annual uptrend, as growth in transferable deposits and other deposits pushed liquidity higher across the board.

According to provisional data released by the State Bank of Pakistan, the total money supply circulating within the economy stood at Rs50.52 trillion in June 2026, compared to Rs48.60tr in May 2026 and Rs44.87tr in June 2025.

This translates into an increase of 3.93% month-on-month (MoM), while showing a strong rise of 12.60% year-on-year (YoY).

A breakdown of the monetary aggregates shows that currency in circulation in the form of notes and transferable deposits together pushed M1 to Rs40.85tr in June 2026, up from Rs39.28tr in May.

On a monthly basis, M1 rose 4.02% MoM, maintaining the recovery momentum seen a month earlier.

Other deposits, which include claims other than transferable deposits in local and foreign currency, rose to Rs6.00tr in June 2026 from Rs5.68tr in May, registering an increase of 5.47% MoM, reversing the decline seen in the previous month.

National Savings Schemes outstanding balances, held with the Central Directorate of National Savings, rose to Rs3.63tr in June from Rs3.61tr in May, edging up 0.65% MoM and showing continued retail investor appetite for government-backed savings instruments.

Deposits held with post offices stood at Rs26.55bn in June, compared to Rs26.57bn in May, slipping 0.06% MoM.

In addition, coins in circulation rose to Rs9.40 billion in June from Rs9.38bn in May and Rs9.26bn in June last year.
