PKR extends gains, settles at 277.87 against USD

July 24, 2026 (MLN): The Pakistani rupee maintained its appreciation against the US dollar on Friday, gaining 3.07 paisa in the interbank market to close the session at PKR 277.87 per USD.

During the trading session, the local currency touched an intraday high (bid) of PKR 278.05 and a low (ask) of PKR 277.85 against the greenback.

In the open market, exchange companies quoted the US dollar at PKR 278.75 for buying and PKR 280.00 for selling.

The rupee also recorded gains against other major currencies. It appreciated by 95.20 paisa versus the euro to settle at PKR 316.37, compared with PKR 317.32 in the previous session.

Against the British pound, the local unit advanced by Rs1.07 (0.29%) to PKR 370.44, while it strengthened by 64.30 paisa (0.19%) against the Swiss franc to close at PKR 340.32.

The domestic currency also improved against the Japanese yen, rising by 0.42 paisa (0.25%) to PKR 1.6967, compared with PKR 1.7009 a day earlier.

Similarly, the rupee gained 3.00 paisa against the Chinese yuan to end the session at PKR 41.02.

Against regional currencies, the rupee appreciated by 0.81 paisa against the Saudi riyal to PKR 74.03, while it climbed 1.24 paisa (0.02%) against the UAE dirham to settle at PKR 75.66.

Since the start of the current fiscal year, the rupee has strengthened by 29.00 paisa against the US dollar. On a calendar-year basis, it has gained Rs2.25, reflecting an appreciation of 0.81%.

Meanwhile, in the money market, the benchmark six-month Karachi Interbank Bid and Offer rates remained unchanged at 11.51% and 11.76%, respectively.
