PDA urges govt to reduce GST on packaged milk to ease prices

March 20, 2025 (MLN): The Pakistan Dairy Association (PDA) has urged the government to reconsider the 18% General Sales Tax (GST) on packaged milk, citing its impact on rising milk prices and affordability for consumers.

In a meeting with Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Haroon Akhtar Khan, PDA representatives emphasized that the tax burden is affecting both producers and consumers, making essential dairy products more expensive.

They stressed that lowering GST would ensure a steady supply of affordable milk while supporting the sustainability of the dairy sector.

Haroon Akhtar Khan acknowledged the concerns and highlighted the need for increased investment in dairy farming and processing to enhance quality standards and reduce costs.

He assured the delegation of the government’s commitment to working with stakeholders to address industry challenges.

While no immediate policy changes were announced, the PDA remains hopeful for a favourable decision that supports both the dairy industry and consumers.
