Pakistan pushes export drive in China

May 25, 2026 (MLN): Pakistan and China moved to strengthen bilateral trade and investment ties as Federal Minister for Commerce Jam Kamal Khan held a series of high-level meetings with leading Chinese companies during Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif's four-day official visit to China (May 23–26), targeting key sectors including textiles, agriculture, mining, chemicals, e-commerce, and food processing.

The Minister met representatives of eight Chinese firms, according to a press release issued.

He discussed yarn imports and cotton seed quality with BoB Zhou of Zhong Heng Textile, and explored organic products and seed development with Caterina Tao of Fortune Tech.

Meetings with Shanghai Zhongken Xinshen Technology covered integrated mining collaboration, while Nanjing Jinshan Chemical Technology expressed interest in procuring Pakistani copper, lead-zinc, iron ore, guar gum, and sugar. Shanghai Pingyuan-Tech discussed digital trade and e-commerce connectivity in coordination with TDAP, and AHCOF Neochains Holdings reviewed sesame trade arrangements through TCP.

Chairman Shi Wei of Zhejiang Grain, Oil and Food discussed Pakistani agri-commodity exports, while Shanghai Hede Food explored beef and poultry market access and supply chain cooperation.

The visit marks the 75th anniversary of Pakistan-China diplomatic relations. PM Sharif was accompanied by Deputy PM and Foreign Minister Senator Ishaq Dar, Minister for Planning Ahsan Iqbal, Information Minister Attaullah Tarar, IT Minister Shaza Fatima Khawaja, SAPM Tariq Fatemi, and Minister for Commerce Jam Kamal Khan.
