Pakistan’s Trade deficit deteriorates by 6.44 percent during July-December of FY21

January 07, 2021 (MLN): Pakistan's trade deficit for 6 months (July-December) FY21 was USD 12.42 billion compared to a deficit of USD 11.67 billion from the corresponding period from FY20.

According to data released by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS), the trade deficit for the month of December 2020 was recorded at USD 2.683 billion compared to a deficit of USD2.137 billion from November 2020 showing the deficit worsened by 25.55 percent.

Compared to December 2019 deficit of USD 2.032 billion, the trade numbers deteriorated by 32.04 percent.

Exports increased by 8.19 percent to USD 2.352 billion compared to USD 2.174 billion in November 2020 and increased by 18.31 percent when compared to December 2019.

Imports in December 2020 increased by 16.79 percent, clocking in at USD 5.035 billion compared to USD 4.311 billion in November 2020.

Similarly compared to December 2019 imports increased by 25.25 percent

Overall the 6 month exports stood at USD 12.098 billion compared to USD 11.524 from the corresponding period of last year, showing a decrease of 4.98 percent. Similarly Imports during the period increased by 5.72 percent to USD 24.521 billion compared to USD 23.195 from the same period of FY20.
