Ministry recommends Rs64bn project for Karachi’s development with World Bank's financing

December 27, 2023 (MLN): The CDWP meeting held today recommended a project "Competitive & Livable City of Karachi" worth Rs63.95bn aimed to improve the urban management, service delivery, and business environment in Karachi, said a press release issued.

The project will also address the urban infrastructure, deficiencies and institutional constraints to Karachi’s urban development.

The project, subject to the approval of Executive Committee of National Economic Council (ECNEC), is proposed to be financed by World Bank’s loan of Rs61.12bn under Investment Project Financing (IPF) and Government of Sindh counterpart sharing of Rs2.83bn. 

Moreover, the ministry of National Health Services, Regulations and Coordination, presented a projected namely "Establishment of Infectious Disease Laboratory" worth Rs8.29bn recommended to ECNEC for approval.

The project is proposed to be financed through PSDP.

The project envisages establishment of state of the art R&D Laboratory to detect/analyze microorganisms.

Upon completion of the project after PC-I, the NIH will have a better capability for detection of novel, exotic, emerging and re-emerging pathogens and their timely control as well as R&D facility which is an absolute necessity.

Envisaged outcome of the project would broadly encompass.
