August 22, 2023 (MLN): The total power generation in the country increased by 8.2% MoM to 14,840 GWh during June 2023 as compared to 13,713 GWh in the corresponding month, monthly power production data released by the National Electric Power Authority (NEPRA) showed.
On a yearly basis, the total power generation increased by 4.9% YoY for July 2023 compared to 14,151 GWh in the corresponding period last year.
The highest power generation of 25516 MW recorded on 21st Aug, 2023 at 2400 hrs breaking the record of 24600 MW recorded on 18th Aug.
Moreover, highest ever energy in a single day was also recorded on 21st Aug i.e 558.35 GWH, previous record was 555.33 GWH on 8th July,2021.
Source-wise, during the month of July 2023, RFO, Import Iran, and Gas went down by 66.4%, 37.7%, and 23% YoY, respectively.
On the flip side, Nuclear, coal, and Hydel generation increased by 4.8%, 21%, and 10.9% YoY, respectively.
Furthermore, power generation from wind, bagasse, and solar stood at 549 GWh, 40 GWh, and 75 GWh respectively.
Share-wise, power generation through hydel contributed the largest in July 2023, as it accounted for 37.2% (5,518 GWh) of total electricity.
With a share of 19.7%, power generation from RLNG was around 2,918 GWh at Rs24.4/ kWh fuel cost, whereas, coal contributed 14.7% (2,180 GWh) of electricity at a price of Rs11.5/kWh.
Meanwhile, nuclear-based power plants generated around 2,107 GWh (14.02% of total generation) at the fuel cost of Rs1.2/ kWh.
Fuel mix improved as generation from cheaper fuels increased i.e. Hydel, Nuclear, keeping fuel cost flat at 10.91/kWh.
While on a sequential basis, it went down by 3.4% in July 2023 to Rs10.91 per unit as compared to Rs11.28 per unit in June 2023.
