Closing Bell: Rally runs out of steam

December 30, 2019 (MLN): Contrary to the previous session, the equity market ended today’s trade on a slightly positive note as it surpassed 40,800 level.  After gaining 39 points or up by 0.1% from Friday’s close, the index closed at 40,887 points.

During the session, market went up by 447 points, however, later on it lost momentum as the selling pressure was witnessed in Banking and E&P sector.

The Index traded in a range of 480.23 points or 1.18 percent of previous close, showing an intraday high of 41,295.04 and a low of 40,814.81.

Of the 96 traded companies in the KSE100 Index 59 closed up 36 closed down, while 1 remained unchanged. Total volume traded for the index was 110.68 million shares.

Sectors propping up the index were Fertilizer with 62 points, Power Generation & Distribution with 45 points, Cement with 34 points, Oil & Gas Marketing Companies with 20 points and Automobile Assembler with 16 points.

The most points added to the index was by ENGRO which contributed 74 points followed by LUCK with 30 points, HUBC with 22 points, KEL with 18 points and PSO with 12 points.

Sector wise, the index was let down by Commercial Banks with 153 points, Oil & Gas Exploration Companies with 29 points, Transport with 4 points, Automobile Parts & Accessories with 2 points and Paper & Board with 1 points.

The most points taken off the index was by HBL which stripped the index of 63 points followed by MCB with 35 points, FFC with 27 points, UBL with 23 points and BAHL with 21 points.

All Share Volume decreased by 101.74 Million to 165.83 Million Shares. Market Cap increased by Rs.14.55 Billion.

Total companies traded were 362 compared to 355 from the previous session. Of the scrips traded 201 closed up, 138 closed down while 23 remained unchanged.

Total trades decreased by 28,051 to 59,044.

Value Traded decreased by 2.85 Billion to Rs.6.64 Billion
