Auto sales decline across the board in FY20

September 12, 2019 (MLN): Production and sale of passenger cars in the last two months, draw a striking contrast against the figures recorded in the same period last year when over 39,350 cars were produced and 34,260 units were sold. This year, a production of 27,108 units and a sale of 20,094 units has been recorded.

According to data recorded by Pakistan Automotive Manufacturers’ Association (PAMA), the biggest fall was observed amongst cars with engine capacity of 1300cc and above as their production dropped from 17,911 units to 9,301 units, while sales declined from 17,687 units to 6,604 units.

The cumulative decline this fiscal year was distributed over July and August both.

Meanwhile, the total production and sale of trucks and buses came down to 688 units and 806 units, from 1,595 units and 1,416 units.

Similarly, jeep consumption during the two months declined by over 1,200 units, Pick-ups consumption slid by over 1,400 units, tractor sale by around 2,200 units whereas sales of 2 and 3 wheel drives dropped by 52,200 units.
