Shehbaz Sharif orders committee formation to tackle soaring food prices

March 12, 2024 (MLN): The newly elected Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Monday directed the immediate formation of a committee to control the soaring prices of essential food items in the country.

According to the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting's latest news post, he gave these directions while chairing an inaugural session of the Federal Cabinet.

The Prime Minister ordered that the committee, in collaboration with the provincial governments, will strictly monitor the prices of essential food items.

He further emphasized that strict action will be taken against unjustified price increases and profiteering in essential commodities.

It is crucial to note that the government has recently banned the export of bananas and onions till the end of Ramadan to control prices in the domestic market.

This measure aims to ensure ample availability in the market during the blessed month of Ramadan.

Shehbaz Sharif also congratulated the newly-appointed Cabinet members and expressed his best wishes for their tenure. He also outlined the government's vision and priorities during the Cabinet meeting.
