Fertilizer offtake jumps 27% YoY in May 2025

June 16, 2025 (MLN): The country’s overall nutrient offtake in May 2025 rose sharply to 311 thousand tonnes, showing a 27.3% increase compared to May 2024, according to the latest monthly fertilizer report issued by the National Fertilizer Development Centre (NFDC).

Among major nutrients, nitrogen and phosphate offtake witnessed significant increases of 17% and 108%, respectively.

Potash was the only nutrient to show a negative trend, declining by 18.7% year-on-year.

Urea, DAP

Urea offtake during May 2025 stood at 418 thousand tonnes, marking a 4.6% increase compared to May 2024.

DAP offtake also surged significantly by 135.2%, recording 95 thousand tonnes.

Fertilizer production and imported supplies

Total domestic fertilizer production in May 2025 was 849 thousand tonnes.

Urea production was recorded at 606 thousand tonnes, while DAP production reached 78 thousand tonnes.

Production of other products i.e., NP, CAN, SSP, NPKs and SOP was 77, 75, 7.2, 0.7 and 3.7 thousand tonnes, respectively.

Total imported supplies were 53 thousand tonnes comprising 52, thousand tonnes of DAP, one thousand tonne of SOP and 0.1 thousand tonne of urea phosphate.

Supply/Demand Situation

Total urea availability during May 2025 was 1,711 thousand tonnes, including 1,104 thousand tonnes leftover from April and 606 thousand tonnes from fresh production.

With offtake at 418 thousand tonnes, the closing balance rose to 1,316 thousand tonnes.

DAP availability stood at 333 thousand tonnes, sourced from 204 thousand tonnes in stock, 52 thousand tonnes of imports, and 78 thousand tonnes of local production.

After the offtake of 95 thousand tonnes, the closing balance reached 238 thousand tonnes.

Domestic prices

The price of urea (sona), and urea (other) decreased/increased by -0.5%, and -0.2%, during May 2025 as compared with the previous month.

On the other hand, the price of DAP and CAN increased by 2% and 0.8% respectively, while prices of other phosphate fertilizer products such as NP, and SSP changed by +1.2%, and -0.4%, respectively.

The average price of urea (sona), urea (other), and DAP was Rs4,476, Rs4,363, and Rs12,606 per 50 kg bag, respectively.

International prices

The price of urea in the Chinese market showed an upward trend during May 2025, while in the Middle East it remained stable.

Urea prices were quoted in the range of $258–365 per tonne FOB bulk in China and $370–395 per tonne in the Middle East.

DAP prices in Morocco increased by $40 per tonne, while prices in China increased by $51 per tonne.

In May 2025, DAP prices ranged from $660–750 per tonne FOB in Morocco and $670–722 per tonne FOB in China.

MAP and TSP bulk prices ranged between $667–680 and $535–555 per tonne FOB, respectively.

Ex-Karachi price of imported urea ranged between Rs6,852 and Rs7,249 per 50 kg bag, while the price of imported DAP was in the range of Rs12,110 to Rs13,602 per 50 kg bag.
