Worker remittances rise 17% YoY in August 2026

September 09, 2026 (MLN): Pakistan received workers' remittances of $3.66bn in August 2026, up 0.7% from $3.63bn in July 2026, and up 16.5% on a yearly basis from $3.14bn in August 2025, according to the latest data released by the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP).

On a historic two month basis, total remittances came in at $7.28bn, up from $6.35bn in SPLY.

Saudi Arabia retained the top position as the largest
contributor to workers' remittances in August 2026, with inflows totalling
$873.5m, down 4.4% from $913.9m in July 2026, but up 18.6% from $736.7m in
August 2025.
The UAE remained in second place, with inflows of
$749.8m, up 1.7% month-on-month from $737.3m in July 2026, and up 16.6% from
$642.9m in August 2025. Within the UAE, Dubai contributed $634.6m, Abu Dhabi
$91.1m, Sharjah $13.2m, and other emirates $10.9m.
The United Kingdom (UK) held on to third place,
contributing $563.7m, up 1.5% from July's $555.5m, and up 21.6% from $463.4m in
August 2025.
Remittances from the United States (USA) stood at
$308.9m, down 2.3% from $316.3m in the previous month, but up 15.6% from
$267.3m in August 2025.
Workers' remittances from European Union (EU) countries
reached $495.9m, up 7.5% from July's $461.4m, and up 14.6% from $432.7m in
August 2025. Among EU member states, Italy led with $152.9m, followed by Spain
$89.8m, Germany $73.6m, Greece $56.8m, France $50.7m, Ireland $26.1m, Belgium
$17.9m, Sweden $10.7m, the Netherlands $9.7m, and Denmark $7.9m.
Other GCC countries (excluding Saudi Arabia and UAE)
contributed $326.7m, down 2.8% from the previous month, but up 7.5% from
$303.9m in August 2025. Key contributors included Oman $108.8m, Qatar $94.2m,
Kuwait $74m, and Bahrain $49.7m.
Among other notable countries, Australia sent $99.3m, Canada $65.8m, South Africa $25.3m, South Korea $11.6m, Norway $11.8m, Malaysia $12.9m, Japan $6.3m, Switzerland $3.8m, and other countries contributed $101m.
