September 07, 2026 (MLN): Net savings mobilized
through National Savings Schemes (NSS) clocked in at Rs53.2 billion in July
2026, marking the opening month of FY2026-27, according to data released by the
Central Directorate of National Savings (CDNS) and compiled by the State Bank
of Pakistan.
The reading represents a strong start to the fiscal year,
surpassing every monthly print recorded during FY2025-26, including the Rs44.2bn
mobilized in July 2025, the year-ago comparable month.
Compared directly to June 2026, when net savings stood at
Rs23.6bn, July's outturn represents a sharp increase of approximately Rs29.7bn,
pointing to a marked pickup in retail appetite for government savings
instruments as the new fiscal year opened.
Breaking Down the July Numbers
The Defence Savings Certificates (DSC) segment turned
positive with a net inflow of Rs54m in July, a reversal from the Rs2.9 billion
net outflow recorded in June.
DSCs, long-duration certificates designed for capital
preservation over the medium term, had recorded a cumulative net outflow of
Rs15.1bn over the whole of FY2025-26.
Regular Income Certificates (RIC), the flagship instrument
catering to income-seeking retail investors through regular monthly payouts,
contributed a net Rs11.8bn in July 2026, more than double the Rs5.0bn recorded
in June.
RIC was the strongest contributor among the named
instruments in FY2025-26, closing the year with cumulative net inflows of
Rs56.8bn.
Special Savings Certificates (SSC) registered net inflows of
Rs4.1bn in July, a sharp pickup from Rs567m in June. SSCs, medium-term
compounding certificates that offer a lump-sum payout at maturity, had
contributed a cumulative Rs13.4bn over FY2025-26.
Prize Bonds mobilized a net Rs2.9bn in July, up from Rs662m
in June. Prize Bonds represent a unique mobilization category where net flows
are driven by the balance between new purchases and redemptions of
non-interest-bearing lottery-linked instruments.
On a full-year FY2025-26 basis, Prize Bonds had contributed
Rs24.2 billion in net terms.
The largest contributor in July, consistent with the pattern
seen through FY2025-26, was the residual others category, which encompasses
instruments including Bahbood Savings Certificates, Pensioners' Benefit
Accounts, Shuhada Family Welfare Accounts, and short-duration savings accounts.
This segment contributed Rs34.3bn in July, up from Rs20.2bn
in June. Others accounted for the lion's share of total mobilization in
FY2025-26 at Rs213.2 billion.
Net mobilization for FY2026-27 through July stands at Rs53.2
billion, building on the Rs292.6bn mobilized over the full course of FY2025-26.
