July 15, 2022 (MLN): The Weekly Sensitive Price Indicator (SPI) for the Combined Group witnessed a marginal increase of 0.01% during the week ended Jul 14, 2022 while the SPI jumped by 33.12% compared to the corresponding period from last year, according to weekly data released by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) on Friday.

As per the PBS inflation report, the nominal increase was mainly due to rise in prices of essential food items and washing soap.

The combined index was at 200.55 compared to 200.53 on Jul 06, 2022 while the index was recorded at 150.65 a year ago, on Jul 15, 2021.

Out of the 51 monitored items, the average price of 29 items increased that include; potatoes (4.72%), chicken (4.45%), cooked daal (1.43%), rice irri 6/9 (1.17%), rice basmati broken (1.14%), vegetable ghee 2.5 kg (1.12%), gur (1.08%), curd (1.07%) and washing soap (1.59%) while 5 items witnessed a decrease in prices; tomatoes (24.55%), bananas (2.82%), pulse gram (0.67%), LPG (0.46%) and mustard oil (0.05%). 17 items registered no change during the week.

The weekly SPI percentage change by income groups showed a mixed trend with SPI ranging between -0.05% and 0.02%.

The lowest income group witnessed a weekly decrease of 0.05% while the highest income group recorded an increase of 0.01%.

On a yearly basis, analysis of SPI change across different income segments showed that SPI increased across all quantiles ranging between 26.63% and 34.19%.

Yearly SPI for the Lowest Income Group increased by 26.63% while the highest income group recorded an increase of 34.19%.

The average price of Sona urea stood at Rs2,364 per 50 kg bag which is 1.16% higher than last week’s price and 35.47% higher when compared to last year.

Meanwhile, average Cement price was recorded at Rs1,048 per 50 kg bag, which is 0.1% higher than the previous week and 60.98% higher than prices last year.
