Weekly inflation increases by 0.11%

August 18, 2023 (MLN): The Weekly Sensitive Price Indicator (SPI) for the Combined Group increased by 0.78% WoW during the week ended August 17, 2023, while the SPI increased by 27.57% YoY compared to the corresponding period from last year.

According to data released by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) the Combined Index was at 275.57 compared to 273.43 on August 10, 2023, while the index was recorded at 216.02 a year ago, on Aug 18, 2022.

Out of 51 items, the average price of 32 items increased, 7 items decreased, and 12 items remained stable.

The weekly SPI percentage change by income groups showed that SPI increased across all quantiles ranging between 0.36% and 0.98%.

The Lowest Income Group witnessed a weekly increase of 0.36% while the highest income group recorded an increase of 0.98%.

On a yearly basis, analysis of SPI change across different income segments showed that SPI increased across all quantiles ranging between 25.2% and 30.82%.

Yearly SPI for the Lowest Income Group increased by 27.79% while the highest income group recorded an increase of 28.48%.

The average price of Sona urea stood at Rs3579 per 50 kg bag which is 3.14% higher than last week’s price and 47.21% higher when compared to last year.

Meanwhile, the average Cement price was recorded at Rs1161 per 50 kg bag, which is 0.07% lower than the previous week and 11.8% higher than prices last year.
