February 14, 2025 (MLN): The establishment of Seerat Chairs in public sector universities aims to equip future generations with modern education while integrating intellectual and ideological teachings inspired by Seerat-un-Nabi (PBUH), according to the Federal Minister for Planning, Development & Special Initiatives.

Chairing a review meeting on the Seerat Center Lahore project, the Minister emphasized the importance of its operational and governance plan.

The initiative comprises three key components: the establishment of nine Seerat Chairs in public universities and the launch of a world-class center for gender studies and women’s rights.

Additionally, an endowment fund will be created to support research and academic activities.

Research will be conducted on nine key themes derived from the life of the Holy Prophet (PBUH), including faith and sectarian harmony, leadership and governance, human rights and social justice, and business and property rights.

Other focus areas include education and knowledge, sustainable development, social welfare, gender studies, and global peace.

The Women’s Seerat Center Lahore is envisioned as a Center of Excellence in Gender Studies, focusing on countering the disconnect of the younger generation from religion through scholarly engagement.

It will empower women and girls by demonstrating that Islamic teachings guide a dignified and successful life, according to the press release.

The center will specialize in gender studies from an Islamic perspective, ensuring female graduates receive a strong foundation in Islamic teachings alongside expertise in modern disciplines such as economics, sociology, philosophy, political science, psychology, computer science, and management.

It will also offer postgraduate studies and specialized research on gender studies, particularly focusing on women's rights in Islam.

Minister Ahsan Iqbal directed the relevant authorities to expedite the operationalization of Seerat Centers, recruit faculty, and establish well-equipped libraries to facilitate academic research.
