PKR inches higher vs USD

March 10, 2026 (MLN): The Pakistani rupee (PKR) recorded a marginal gain of 0.92 paisa against the US dollar during Tuesday’s interbank trading, closing at PKR 279.36 per USD compared to the previous session’s closing of 279.37.

During the session, the local currency moved within a narrow band, touching an intraday high (bid) of 279.40 and a low (ask) of 279.35.

In the open market, exchange companies quoted the US dollar at PKR 280.00 for buying and PKR 280.40 for selling.

Against other major currencies, the rupee weakened. It lost 2.71 rupees, or 0.84%, against the Euro to close at 325.55 compared to the previous rate of 322.84.

The local unit also declined against the British Pound, falling by 3.69 rupees or 0.99% to settle at 376.37 versus 372.68 a day earlier.

Similarly, PKR depreciated by 1.01 rupees, or 0.28%, against the Swiss Franc to close at 360.03.

Against the Japanese Yen, the rupee slipped by 1.16 paisa, or 0.66%, ending the session at 1.7751 compared with 1.7635 previously.

The local currency also weakened against the Chinese Yuan, declining by 24.90 paisa or 0.62% to close at 40.65, up from 40.40 in the previous session.

Meanwhile, the rupee edged down by 1.15 paisa, or 0.02%, against the Saudi Riyal to settle at 74.44, while it slipped by 0.48 paisa, or 0.01%, against the UAE Dirham to close at 76.07.

Despite the mixed daily performance, the rupee has appreciated by 4.40 rupees, or 1.58%, against the US dollar during the current fiscal year. On a calendar year basis, it has gained 76.13 paisa, representing an increase of 0.27%.

In the money market, the benchmark six-month Karachi Interbank Bid and Offer rates remained unchanged, holding steady at 10.64% and 10.89%, respectively.
