Sale of DAP declines by 71% in May owing to spread of COVID-19

June 23, 2020 (MLN): The total DAP offtake during the month of May, 2020 was nearly 61 thousand tonnes, showing a decline of 71.4 percent over May 2019.

DAP offtake during the first two months of Kharif 2020 (April-May) was 212 thousand tonnes, showing a decrease of 29.3 percent over same timeframe of previous Kharif 2019.

According to a monthly report by National Fertilizer Development Center (NFDC), Kharif, 2020 started with opening balance of 500 thousand tonnes. Domestic production during the season is estimated to be 396 thousand tonnes and imported supplies of 309 thousand tonnes. Thus, total availability of DAP will be around 1205 thousand tonnes. The demand of DAP during Kharif, 2020 is estimated around 956 thousand tonnes.

Province-wise, DAP offtake decreased by 71, 74, 71 and 52 percent in Punjab, Sindh, KP and Balochistan, respectively

Total availability of DAP during May 2020 was 563 thousand tonnes comprising 417 thousand tonnes inventory, 71 thousand tonnes imported supplies and 75 thousand tonnes of local production. DAP offtake was about 61 thousand tonnes. The closing balance works out to be about 502 thousand tonnes.
