March 15, 2021 (MLN): The Roshan Digital Account (RDA) has crossed 100,000 accounts and deposits have reached $671 million, with half of these coming in the last 8 weeks alone, the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) said in a tweet on Friday.

According to SBP, accounts have been opened from over 100 countries around the world.

The Roshan Digital Account, launched by Prime Minister Imran Khan on Sept 10, 2020, was a joint effort of the SBP and the federal government in collaboration with commercial banks operating in Pakistan. Since its inception, the scheme has shown significant growth and helped SBP and the government to improve external accounts.

The main purpose of the RDA is to attract millions of Pakistanis living abroad by offering much higher returns on deposits than those in developed economies.
