January 04, 2024 (MLN): After a range bound session on Thursday, the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) closed flat at 64,639.16, showing a marginal decline of 7.69 points or 0.01%.

PSX's benchmark index had gained 297 points yesterday, bringing its total increase since the start of the new year to almost 2,200pts or 3.5%.

Despite some concerns regarding the high and sticky inflation, market sentiments remain positive amid low valuations and anticipation of a strong earnings season ahead.

In today's session, the KSE-100 index traded in a range of 838.65 points showing an intraday high of 64,936.76 (+289.91) and a low of 64,098.11 (-548.74) points.

The total volume of the index was 322.736 million shares.

Advancers to decliners remained equally distributed, with 43 companies closing up and 48 closing down.

Meanwhile 6 were unchanged and 3 remained untraded.

KSE-100 index was let down by Commercial Banks with 51.41, Oil & Gas Exploration Companies with 37.4, Technology & Communication with 27.91, Cement with 27.32, and Engineering with 18.86 points.

On the flip-side, the index was supported by Fertilizer with 74.29, Power Generation & Distribution with 51.14, Refinery with 25.59, Leather & Tanneries with 20.61, and Miscellaneous with 9.5 points.

Companies that dragged the index lower were OGDC with 34.9, SYS with 28.26, PPL with 27.6, LUCK with 24.17 and HBL with 21.22 points.

On the other hand, companies that added points to the index were HUBC with 37.84, ENGRO with 28.37, EFERT with 28.3, FFC with 22.33, and SRVI with 20.61 points.

In the broader market, the All-Share index closed at 43,308.85 with a net gain of 9.18 points.

Total market volume was 548.990 million shares compared to 671.665 from the previous session while traded value was recorded at Rs15.40 billion showing a decrease of Rs4.9bn.

There were 196,656 trades reported in 359 companies with 155 closing up, 183 closing down and 21 remaining unchanged.

To note, the KSE-100 has gained 23,186 points or 55.93% during the fiscal year, whereas the ongoing calendar year has witnessed a cumulative increase of 2,188 points, equivalent to 3.5%.
