PSX Closing Bell: Taking a step back

December 10, 2024 (MLN): The benchmark KSE-100 Index concluded Tuesday's trading session at 108,896.65, showing a decrease of 1,073.73 points or 0.98%.

The index traded in a range of 4,048.18 points showing an intraday high of 111,759.58 (+1,789.20) and a low of 107,711.40 (-2,258.98) points.

The total volume of the KSE-100 Index was 669.93 million shares.

Of the 100 index companies 28 closed up, 70 closed down, while 2 were unchanged.

Top losers during the day were AIRLINK (-10.00%), PAEL (-8.40%), SNGP (-6.86%), PIBTL (-5.87%), and SAZEW (-5.50%).

On the other hand, top gainers were ATRL (+8.68%), MARI (+5.52%), LCI (+3.34%), SEARL (+3.24%), and LUCK (+3.03%).

In terms of index-point contributions, companies that dragged the index lower were UBL (-155.54pts), BAHL (-150.31pts), MCB (-128.37pts), EFERT (-123.92pts), and ENGRO (-71.86pts).

Meanwhile, companies that added points to the index were MARI (+271.15pts), LUCK (+101.40pts), ATRL (+65.26pts), SYS (+39.25pts), and SEARL (+32.66pts).

Sector-wise, KSE-100 Index was let down by Commercial Banks (-714.38pts), Fertilizer (-143.05pts), Automobile Assembler (-110.41pts), Oil & Gas Marketing Companies (-97.97pts), and Power Generation & Distribution (-79.29pts).

While the index was supported by Oil & Gas Exploration Companies (+134.69pts), Cement (+76.02pts), Refinery (+55.43pts), Pharmaceuticals (+27.15pts), and Chemical (+15.74pts).

In the broader market, the All-Share Index closed at 68,907.23 with a net loss of 677.72 points or 0.97%.

Total market volume was 1,548.30 million shares compared to 1,597.87m from the previous session while traded value was recorded at Rs68.81 billion showing an increase of Rs8.55bn.

There were 613,000 trades reported in 468 companies with 105 closing up, 328 closing down, and 35 remaining unchanged.

To note, the KSE-100 has gained 30,452 points or 38.82% during the fiscal year, whereas it has increased 46,446 points or 74.37% so far this calendar year.
