Pakistan's external financing hits $939m in August

September 22, 2026 (MLN): Pakistan received $939.53mn in
external financing in August 2026, taking cumulative inflows for the first two
months of FY27 (July-August) to $1.70bn, the latest report by the Economic
Affairs Division (EAD) showed.
Disbursements from bilateral and
multilateral development partners totalled $353.76mn in August, taking the
two-month total to $626.19mn, while a $300mn commercial loan from UBL Dubai was
the single largest inflow of the month.
Foreign assistance through
multilateral sources amounted to $338.13mn in August, lifting the FY27
cumulative total to $590.96mn.
Bilateral development partners
contributed $15.62mn in August, with their two-month total reaching $35.23mn.
The Islamic Development Bank's
short-term facility, IsDB (ST), was the leading multilateral donor in August,
disbursing $168.55mn during the month and taking its FY27 cumulative total to
$191.26mn.
The International Development
Association (IDA) disbursed $107.84mn in August, lifting its FY27 cumulative
total to $238.49mn. The Asian Development Bank (ADB) contributed $36.59mn
during the month, bringing its cumulative total to $95.76mn.
The International Bank for
Reconstruction and Development (IBRD) disbursed $18.32mn in August, taking its
FY27 total to $47.54mn, while the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB)
added $6.78mn, lifting its cumulative total to $13.35mn.
The International Fund for
Agricultural Development (IFAD) contributed $0.05mn during the month, with its
cumulative total reaching $2.05mn.
The Islamic Development Bank (IDB) and
the OPEC Fund recorded no disbursements in August, with their cumulative totals
unchanged at $1.75mn and $0.76mn, respectively.
Among bilateral donors, France
disbursed $7.22mn in August, its FY27 cumulative total reaching $8.52mn.
Denmark contributed $3.15mn during the
month, its full-year total also standing at $3.15mn, reflecting its first
disbursement of the year.
Germany disbursed $2.92mn in August,
lifting its cumulative total to $12.87mn, while Saudi Arabia added $1.48mn,
with its cumulative disbursements rising to $8.90mn. Japan contributed $0.77mn,
taking its total to $1.71mn, while the US disbursed $0.08mn during the month.
China's guaranteed bilateral loan
recorded no fresh disbursement in August, holding steady at $146.62mn for the
year.
Under commercial banks, UBL Dubai
disbursed a $300mn loan in August, its first for the year, taking FY27
commercial bank inflows to $300mn.
Foreign commercial borrowing through
the Naya Pakistan Certificate (NPC) scheme totalled $285.77mn in August,
comprising $84.92mn under the conventional facility and $200.85mn under the
Islamic facility, lifting the FY27 cumulative NPC total to $629.76mn.
On a purposewise basis, non-project
aid in August amounted to $785.27mn, including $585.77mn in budgetary support
and $168.55mn under the IsDB short-term facility, reflecting continued reliance
on programme-based inflows for macroeconomic stabilisation.
Cumulatively, non-project
disbursements for FY27 reached $1.22bn. Project-based disbursements stood at
$154.26mn in August, with a cumulative total of $484.56mn for the year.
