April 25, 2024 (MLN): The benchmark KSE-100 index closed Thursday's trading session at 71,971.40 showing a decrease of 80.49 points or 0.11%.

The index traded in a range of 892.72 points showing an intraday high of 72,593.25 (+541.36) and a low of 71,700.54 (-351.36) points.

The total volume of the KSE-100 index was 424.08 million shares.

Of the 100 index companies 39 closed up, 58 closed down, 1 was unchanged, while 2 remained untraded.

KSE-100 index was supported by Commercial Banks with 138.5, Oil & Gas Exploration Companies with 40.89, Power Generation & Distribution with 30.35, Pharmaceuticals with 21.33, and Automobile Parts & Accessories with 20.82 points.

On the contrary, the index was let down by Automobile Assembler with 94.36, Cement with 85.26, Miscellaneous with 50.42, Inv. Banks / Inv. Cos. / Securities Cos. with 48.64, and Tobacco with 20.3 points.

Companies adding points to the index were UBL with 87.7, KEL with 43.31, OGDC with 43.1, EFERT with 36.38, and BAHL with 30.26 points.

Meanwhile, companies that dragged the index lower were MTL with 94.62, DAWH with 43.96, PSEL with 43.38, POL with 34.51 and LUCK with 34.16 points.

In the broader market, the All-Share index closed at 47,174.95 with a net gain of 2.14 points.

Total market volume was 798.527 million shares compared to 599.402 from the previous session while traded value was recorded at Rs27.54 billion showing an increase of Rs3.06bn.

There were 303,943 trades reported in 386 companies with 171 closing up, 190 closing down and 25 remaining unchanged.

KEL remained in the limelight, recording a trading volume of almost 120m shares.

This comes after it said the company will invest $2bn in Transmission and Distribution over the next seven years to manage the city’s needs through targeted investments and tech-based interventions.

To note, the KSE-100 has gained 30,519 points or 73.62% during the fiscal year, whereas the ongoing calendar year has witnessed a cumulative increase of 9,520 points, equivalent to 15.24%.
