Intraday Report: Bearish trend continues as KSE-100 loses over 650pts

April 19, 2023 (MLN): The capital market on Wednesday remained sluggish amid a lack of fresh triggers and ongoing political and economic uncertainty. 

The delay in the completion of the 9th review of the IMF program has kept investors skeptical which allowed the benchmark KSE100 index to add only 51.29 points to close at 40,499.34.

The Index traded in a range of 237.62 points or 0.59 percent of the previous close, showing an intraday high of 40,528.40 and a low of 40,290.78.

Of the 90 traded companies in the KSE100 Index 54 closed up 32 closed down, while 4 remained unchanged. Total volume traded for the index was 35.15 million shares.

Sectors propping up the index were Fertilizer with 68 points, Oil & Gas Exploration Companies with 26 points, Chemical with 18 points, Inv. Banks / Inv. Cos. / Securities Cos. with 10 points and Commercial Banks with 8 points.

The most points added to the index were by ENGRO which contributed 59 points followed by MCB with 13 points, DAWH with 12 points, POL with 10 points and FCEPL with 9 points.

Sector-wise, the index was let down by Technology & Communication with 86 points, Insurance with 10 points, Food & Personal Care Products with 5 points, Miscellaneous with 4 points and Tobacco with 3 points.

The most points taken off the index was by SYS which stripped the index of 87 points followed by AICL and MEBL with 10 points, NESTLE with 9 points and ATLH with 7 points.

All Share Volume increased by 16.63mn to 84.16mn shares. Market Cap increased by Rs6.10 billion.

The total companies traded were 291 compared to 306 from the previous session. Of the scrips traded 165 closed up, 104 closed down and 22 remained unchanged.

Total trades increased by 10,254 to 47,399.

Value Traded increased by 1.35bn to Rs3.63bn.
