PSX Closing Bell: Greener Pastures

July 14, 2022 (MLN): Bulls held their ground for the second consecutive day at the local bourse as the benchmark KSE-100 index extended gains by 486.14 points to close the session at 42,348.91 while making an intraday high of 42,361.87.

The positive sentiments across the board stemmed from the official statement from IMF as per which Pakistan will receive $1.177 billion after the approval of IMF’s Executive Board, bringing total disbursements under the program to about $4.2 billion. 

Meanwhile, the Pakistani rupee (PKR) has also shown signs of recovery in today’s interbank session which also boosted investors’ confidence.

Of the 93 traded companies in the KSE100 Index 64 closed up 24 closed down, while 5 remained unchanged. The total volume traded for the index was 132.60 million shares.

Sectors propping up the index were Commercial Banks with 123 points, Cement with 82 points, Fertilizer with 76 points, Engineering with 37 points, and Technology & Communication with 36 points.

The most points added to the index were by SYS which contributed 37 points followed by ENGRO with 37 points, MEBL with 37 points, LUCK with 33 points, and BAHL with 26 points.

Sector-wise, the index was let down by Automobile Assembler with 10 points, Leather & Tanneries with 3 points, Textile Spinning with 2 points, Pharmaceuticals with 2 points, and Glass & Ceramics with 2 points.

The most points taken off the index was by COLG which stripped the index of 17 points followed by POL with 6 points, ABOT with 6 points, MTL with 6 points, and SRVI with 3 points.

All Share Volume increased by 63.02 million to 227.85 million shares. Market Cap increased by Rs61.38 billion.

Total companies traded were 330 compared to 325 from the previous session. Of the scrips traded 198 closed up, 101 closed down while 31 remained unchanged.

Total trades increased by 22,221 to 119,216.

Value Traded increased by 0.94 billion to Rs7.43 billion
