PSX Closing Bell: Born to Run

January 20, 2025 (MLN): The benchmark KSE-100 Index concluded Monday's trading session at 115,844.81, showing an increase of 572.73 points or 0.50%.

The index remained positive throughout the day showing an intraday high of 116,276.42 (+1,004.34) and a low of 115,668.08 (+396.00) points.

The total volume of the KSE-100 Index was 268.34 million shares.

Of the 100 index companies 60 closed up, 37 closed down, while 3 were unchanged.

Top gainers during the day were LOTCHEM (+8.86%), MLCF (+4.51%), NPL (+3.82%), SEARL (+3.77%), and BWCL (+3.57%).

On the other hand, top losers were MEHT (-2.20%), YOUW (-1.96%), SAZEW (-1.85%), AIRLINK (-1.57%), and SNGP (-1.50%).

In terms of index-point contributions, companies that propped up the index were ENGROH (+223.92pts), FFC (+107.12pts), MEBL (+54.54pts), SEARL (+33.24pts), and MLCF (+30.56pts).

Meanwhile, companies that dragged the index lower were MARI (-46.39pts), PPL (-39.86pts), SYS (-33.54pts), PSO (-32.53pts), and BAFL (-28.99pts).

Sector-wise, KSE-100 Index was supported by Inv. Banks / Inv. Cos. / Securities Cos. (+234.83pts), Fertilizer (+124.57pts), Cement (+88.65pts), Commercial Banks (+82.41pts), and Pharmaceuticals (+65.20pts).

While the index was let down by Oil & Gas Exploration Companies (-57.66pts), Oil & Gas Marketing Companies (-43.61pts), Technology & Communication (-35.91pts), Engineering (-11.78pts), and Leather & Tanneries (-8.71pts).

In the broader market, the All-Share Index closed at 71,942.35 with a net gain of 388.42 points or 0.54%.

Total market volume was 675.05 million shares compared to 549.58m from the previous session while traded value was recorded at Rs37.53 billion showing an increase of Rs1.60bn.

There were 354,481 trades reported in 454 companies with 241 closing up, 157 closing down, and 56 remaining unchanged.

To note, the KSE-100 has gained 37,400 points or 47.68% during the fiscal year, whereas it has increased 718 points or 0.62% so far this calendar year.
