PSX Close: KSE-100 Index gains 155.89 points

August 31, 2022 (MLN): The domestic equity market on Wednesday witnessed a range-bound activity due to ongoing floods. However, the benchmark KSE-100 Index, after printing an intraday high of 42,472.45 and low of 42,073.87 concluded the session in the green due to positive sentiments that stemmed from the International Monetary Fund (IMF)’s approval of the disbursement of a $1.17 billion loan tranche.

Consequently, the index ended the trading session at 42,351.15-level, up by 155.89 points or 0.37% DoD.

The Index traded in a range of 398.58 points or 0.94% of the previous close.

Of the 90 traded companies in the KSE100 Index 55 closed up 32 closed down, while 3 remained unchanged. The total volume traded for the index was 120.33 million shares.

Sectors propping up the index were Cement with 75 points, Chemical with 32 points, Fertilizer with 23 points, Power Generation & Distribution with 23 points and Oil & Gas Exploration Companies with 19 points.

The most points added to the index was by HUBC which contributed 31 points followed by EPCL with 31 points, EFERT with 31 points, PPL with 20 points and LUCK with 20 points.

Sector-wise, the index was let down by Miscellaneous with 43 points, Automobile Assembler with 23 points, Inv. Banks / Inv. Cos. / Securities Cos. with 15 points, Commercial Banks with 15 points and Glass & Ceramics with 3 points.

The most points taken off the index was by PSEL which stripped the index of 43 points followed by BAHL with 24 points, MTL with 21 points, DAWH with 15 points and POL with 13 points.

All Share Volume decreased by 56.40 Million to 181.27 Million Shares. Market Cap increased by Rs.20.23 Billion.

Total companies traded were 339 compared to 338 from the previous session. Of the scrips traded 173 closed up, 143 closed down while 23 remained unchanged.

Total trades decreased by 18,527 to 95,465.

Value Traded decreased by 0.11 Billion to Rs.7.21 Billion
