PKR weakens by around 2 rupees against greenback

July 10, 2023 (MLN): The Pakistani rupee (PKR) depreciated by 1.91 rupees against the US dollar in Monday's interbank session as the currency settled the trade at PKR 279.80 per USD, compared to the previous session's closing of PKR 277.89 per USD.

The currency saw an intraday high (bid) of 280.1 and a low (ask) of 279.9.

In the open market, Exchange Companies quoted the dollar at 280 for buying and 283 for selling.

In comparison to major currencies, PKR lost 4.34 rupees against the Euro, closing at 306.58 compared to the previous value of 302.24.

The British Pound became more expensive by 4.58 rupees closing at 358.51 compared to 353.93 from a day ago.

The Swiss franc saw gains of 4.36 rupees, closing at 314.59 compared to 310.23 from the previous session.

Against the Japanese Yen, PKR lost 2.55 paisa, closing at 1.9647 versus 1.9392 a day ago.

The Chinese Yuan gained 32.51 paisa, closing at 38.67 against 38.35 from the previous session.

The Saudi Riyal increased in value by 52.03 paisa from 75.65 a day ago to 76.17.

The U.A.E Dirham closed at 74.58 with a gain of 50.84 paisa from its values of 74.07 a day ago.

During the current financial year, PKR has appreciated against the Dollar by 6.19 Rupees or 2.21%. While the current calendar year has seen PKR depreciate by 53.37 rupees or 19.08%.

In the Money Market, the benchmark 6-Month Karachi Interbank Bid and Offer rates inched up by 1 bps to 22.73% and 22.98%.
