PKR gains around 11 paisa against USD

September 06, 2024 (MLN): The Pakistani rupee (PKR) appreciated by 10.88 paisa or 0.04% against the US dollar in Friday's interbank session to settle the trade at PKR 278.57 per USD, compared to previous closing of 278.68.

Throughout the day, the currency saw an intraday high (bid) of 278.95 and a low (ask) of 278.80.

In the open market, exchange companies quoted the dollar at 279.33 for buying and 280.25 for selling.

On a weekly basis, PKR registered a loss of over 3 paisa against the greenback.

In comparison to major currencies, PKR lost 63.15 paisa against the Euro, closing at 309.58 compared to the previous value of 308.95.

The British Pound became expensive by 80.4 paisa closing at 367.19 compared to 366.39 from a day ago.

The Swiss franc saw gains of 1.67 rupees, closing at 330.82 compared to 329.15 from the previous session.

Against the Japanese Yen, PKR lost 1.47 paisa, closing at 1.9549 versus 1.9402 a day ago.

The Chinese Yuan gained 6.91 paisa, closing at 39.32 against 39.25 from the previous session.

The Saudi Riyal closed at 74.21 with a loss of 2.9 paisa from its value of 74.24 a day ago.

The U.A.E Dirham decreased in value by 3.17 paisa from 75.84 a day ago to 75.87.

During the current financial year, PKR has depreciated against the Dollar by 22.5 paisa or 0.08%. While the current calendar year has seen PKR appreciate by 3.29 rupees or 1.18%.

In the Money Market, the benchmark 6 Month Karachi Interbank Bid and Offer rates inched down by 4 bps to 17.55% and 17.8%.

The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) conducted a reverse repo and Shariah Compliant Modarabah based Open Market Operation (OMO) today, in which it cumulatively injected a total of Rs10.72 trillion into the market.

Of which Rs10.61tr were injected through reverse repo OMO.

Meanwhile, the remaining Rs105 billion was injected through Shariah-compliant Modarabah-based OMO.
