PKR falls by 5 paisa against USD

January 08, 2025 (MLN): The Pakistani rupee (PKR) fell by 5.49 paisa or 0.02% against the US dollar in Wednesday's interbank session to settle the trade at PKR 278.72 per USD, compared to previous closing of 278.67.

Throughout the day, the currency saw an intraday high (bid) of 278.72 and a low (ask) of 278.75.

In the open market, exchange companies quoted the dollar at 278.50 for buying and 280.10 for selling.

In comparison to major currencies, PKR strengthened 2.28 rupees or 0.79% against the Euro, closing at 288.02 compared to the previous value of 290.30.

Against the British Pound, PKR strengthened by 2.30 rupees or 0.66% to 347.51 compared to 349.81 a day ago.

The local unit gained 2.02 rupees or 0.66% against Swiss franc to close at 306.10.

Against the Japanese Yen, PKR's value gained 0.62 paisa or 0.35% to close the session at 1.7628 versus 1.7690 a day ago.

Pakistani Rupee appreciated 1.58 paisa or 0.04% against Chinese Yuan to close at 38.02 from 38.03.

The local currency depreciated by 2.46 paisa or 0.03% against Saudi Riyal to 74.25. While it weakened by 1.50 paisa or 0.02% against the U.A.E Dirham to close at 75.88.

During the current fiscal year, PKR has weakened against the US Dollar by 38.10 paisa or 0.14%. While it has fell 17.22 paisa or 0.06% so far this calendar year.

In the Money Market, the benchmark 6 Month Karachi Interbank Bid and Offer rates inched down by 2bps to 11.75% and 12.00%.
