August 11, 2023 (MLN): The Pakistani rupee (PKR) depreciated by around 90 paisa against the US dollar in Friday's interbank session as the currency settled the trade at PKR 288.49 per USD, compared to the previous session's closing of PKR 287.60 per USD.
The currency saw an intraday high (bid) of 288.5 and a low (ask) of 288.25.
In the open market, Exchange Companies quoted the dollar at 294 for buying and 297 for selling.
During the week PKR depreciated by 1.53 Rupees or 0.53% compared to the previous weeks closing of 286.97.
In comparison to major currencies, PKR lost 55.57 paisa against the Euro, closing at 317.26 compared to the previous value of 316.70.
The British Pound became cheaper by 23.96 paisa closing at 366.68 compared to 366.91 a day ago.
The Swiss franc saw losses of 4.66 paisa, closing at 329.22 compared to 329.26 from the previous session.
Against the Japanese Yen, PKR gained 0.51 paisa, closing at 1.995 versus 1.99 a day ago.
The Chinese Yuan lost 2.62 paisa, closing at 39.87 against 39.90 from the previous session.
The Saudi Riyal increased in value by 24.97 paisa from 78.30 a day ago to 78.55.
The U.A.E Dirham closed at 76.8915 with a gain of 23.92 paisa from its value of 76.65 a day ago.
During the current financial year, PKR has depreciated against the Dollar by 2.5 rupees or 0.87%. While the current calendar year has seen PKR depreciate by 62.06 rupees or 21.51%.
In the Money Market, the benchmark 6-Month Karachi Interbank Bid and Offer rates inched down by 1 bps to 22.78% and 23.03%.
Furthermore, the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) conducted a reverse repo and Shariah Compliant Modarabah-based Open Market Operation (OMO) today, in which it cumulatively injected a total of Rs1.01 trillion into the market.
Of which Rs724.95 billion were injected through reverse repo OMO.
Meanwhile, the remaining Rs291bn was injected through Shariah-Compliant Modarabah Based OMO.
