PKR closes week at 278.57 per USD

January 10, 2025 (MLN): The Pakistani rupee (PKR) increased by 3.45 paisa or 0.01% against the US dollar in Friday's interbank session to settle the trade at PKR 278.57 per USD, compared to the previous closing of 278.61.

Throughout the day, the currency saw an intraday high (bid) of 278.75 and a low (ask) of 278.59.

Over the week, the rupee appreciated by 1.34 paisa. 

In the open market, exchange companies quoted the dollar at 278.50 for buying and 280.60 for selling.

In comparison to major currencies, PKR depreciated 8.98 paisa or 0.03% against the Euro, closing at 286.78 compared to the previous value of 286.69.

Against the British Pound, PKR depreciated by 87.70 paisa or 0.26% to 342.30 compared to 341.42 a day ago.

The local unit fell 1.24 paisa or 0.00% against Swiss franc to close at 305.24.

Against the Japanese Yen, PKR's value gained 0.18 paisa or 0.10% to close the session at 1.7586 versus 1.7604 a day ago.

Pakistani Rupee increased 0.84 paisa or 0.02% against Chinese Yuan to close at 37.99 from 38.00.

The local currency appreciated by 0.63 paisa or 0.01% against Saudi Riyal to 74.21. While it rose by 0.94 paisa or 0.01% against the U.A.E Dirham to close at 75.84.

During the current fiscal year, PKR has depreciated against the US Dollar by 23.38 paisa or 0.08%. While it has depreciated 2.50 paisa or 0.01% so far this calendar year.

In the Money Market, the benchmark 6 Month Karachi Interbank Bid and Offer rates inched down by 1bps to 11.63% and 11.88%.
