Passenger car sales reduce marginally, but production rises during FY19

April 10, 2019 (MLN): Over 160.3 thousand passenger car units have been sold in Pakistan during the ongoing fiscal year 2019, as of March, reports Pakistan Automotive Manufacturer’s Association (PAMA) in its latest sales and production report.

Against these sales, over 170 thousand units of passenger cars were produced during these 9 months, ranging from 800cc engine cars to above 1300cc engine cars.

Compared to last year, the sales have reduced marginally while the production of passenger cars grew by 2.4%.

The maximum number of sales were made within the category of +1300cc engine cars, that of 78,808 units. Within this category, Toyota Corolla cars turned out to be the best seller (42,989 units sold) and also the most highly produced car of the period (43,139 units produced).

The next best seller within this category were Honda cars (Civic and City) as 32,209 units were sold, against a production of 32,331 units.

The 1000cc car category also performed well during this period as 41,620 units were sold against the production of 45,627 units.

Within this category, Suzuki WagonR had the highest consumer demand as 24,582 units of this car were sold.

Meanwhile, over 39,900 units of cars ranging between 800cc – 1000cc (exclusive) were sold during the period, while 44,729 units were produced in this category.
