Pakistan’s July-March trade deficit improves by 13 percent

April 10, 2019 (MLN): Pakistan’s trade deficit for the first 9 months (July-March) of FY19 stood at USD 23.672 Billion compared to USD 27.216 Billion from the corresponding period of last year.

According to data released by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics, the trade deficit for the month of March 2019 was recorded at USD 2.176 Billion, a slight improvement, compared to USD 2.291 Billion from February 2019, but showing an improvement of 28.07 percent compared to USD 3.025 Billion from March 2018.

Exports improved from USD 1.889 Billion in February 2019 to USD 1.979 Billion in March, however compared to March 2018, the exports declined by 11.13 percent.

Imports in March 2019 showed marginal decline compared to February 2019, clocking in at USD 4.155 Billion compared to USD 4.180 Billion from last month. However, the Imports decreased by 20.88 percent compared to USD 5.252 Billion from last year.

Overall the 9M exports stood at USD 17.08 Billion which was almost identical to the USD 17.064 Billion figure from the corresponding period of last year, while Imports decreased by 7.96 percent to USD 40.755 Billion compared to USD 44.281 Billion from last year.
