Pakistan’s imports from China clock in over $1bn

March 18, 2025 (MLN): Among Pakistan’s top trading partners, China remained the top source of imports for Pakistan during February, followed by U. A. E. Dubai, Qatar, and Saudi Arabia.

According to the data released by the State Bank of Pakistan, the total imports from China during the period under review went up by 12.9% to $1.28 billion, as compared to $1.14 billion recorded in the corresponding period of last year.

This was followed by U. A. E. Dubai, as Pakistan imported goods worth $678.06m from the country as compared to the imports of $363.69m recorded during the same month of the previous year, depicting a rise of 86.4%.

Qatar was the third on the list as Pakistan imported products worth $302.93m from the country. This figure was up by 16.3% from the imports of $260.57m in the same period last year.

Saudi Arabia was the fourth in line as imports came from the region during the aforementioned period were $296.62m, depicting an increase of 1.2% YoY.

Among other countries, Pakistan's imports from the Indonesia stood at $246.01m, marking a rise of 27.6% YoY, while imports from Kuwait increased by 13.2% YoY to $237.01m.

Moreover, the imports from U. S. A. stood at $232.77m, up by 49.2% YoY.

On a monthly basis, the total imports from China dropped by 6.2% MoM. Similarly, imports from U. A. E. Dubai increased by 22% MoM.

Moreover, imports from Qatar depicted a decline of 27% MoM.

Meanwhile, cumulatively, in 8MFY25, China remained the top source of imports, recording $10.19bn as against the total imports worth $8.09bn in 8MFY24.

Whereas, total imports from U. A. E. Dubai in 8MFY25 stood at $4.15bn, registering an increase of 32.6%.

Cumulatively, Saudi Arabia ranked as the third-largest contributor to Pakistan's imports, accounting for imports valued at $2.47bn in 8MFY25, compared to the imports worth $3.08bn in the same period last year
