July 18, 2023 (MLN): For the first time in history, cotton arrivals in Pakistan have been reported in July, reaching a total of 858,007 bales as of July 15, indicating a significant development in the country’s cotton industry, as per data released by the Pakistan Cotton Ginners Association (PCGA) on Tuesday.

The cotton sowing target for the current season is approximately 2.764 million hectares, indicating the extent of cultivation dedicated to cotton production.

In terms of cotton production, the target set for the current fiscal year is 12.7m bales, reflecting the government’s efforts to increase cotton output.

Currently, there are nearly 298 ginning factories in operation, which play a crucial role in the processing of raw cotton.

To note, the previous year’s cotton output stood at approximately 4.9m bales.

Pakistan is among the top ten cotton-producing countries in the world, and cotton and textile products are among the country’s major exports.
