Pakistan, Azerbaijan agree on renewable energy cooperation

February 14, 2025 (MLN): Pakistan and Azerbaijan have agreed to collaborate on renewable energy production, transmission, and trade, along with green technologies for environmental sustainability.

This partnership was discussed during a high-level meeting between the Ambassador of Azerbaijan to Pakistan, Ali Alizadeh, and the Coordinator to the Prime Minister for Climate Change, Romina Khurshid Alam.

Both nations recognized the urgency of transitioning to sustainable energy sources to meet global decarbonization goals, according to the press release issued today.

Key areas of cooperation include green hydrogen and green ammonia technologies, which play a crucial role in reducing carbon emissions.

Green hydrogen, produced using renewable energy, offers a clean alternative for fuel and energy storage, while green ammonia presents a cost-effective solution for reducing reliance on fossil fuels.

Romina Khurshid Alam emphasized the importance of regional collaboration to develop and transmit green energy, ensuring energy security and a sustainable future for the region.

She also highlighted the Green Energy Corridor as a platform for Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, and Uzbekistan to collaborate on a renewable energy pathway benefiting domestic and global markets.

Ambassador Ali Alizadeh called the initiative a significant step toward regional energy integration, sustainable economic development, and a clean energy transition.

Ms. Alam expressed Pakistan’s interest in exploring potential participation in the Green Energy Corridor, reinforcing bilateral ties with Azerbaijan and helping both nations achieve their climate commitments.
