Money Supply in Pakistan economy widens by 6.9% YoY in December 2022

February 02, 2023 (MLN): The total money supply in the economy has reached around Rs30.74 trillion in December 2022, increasing by 6.9% YoY compared to the same period last year while on a monthly basis, it decreased by 0.24%.

According to a breakdown of the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) data on Monetary Aggregates, the money supply shows that a total of Rs7.67tr were circulated as notes and Rs15.29tr accounted for transferable deposits, which are exchangeable on demand without penalty or restriction.

Other deposits, which include all claims other than transferable deposits, amounted to Rs4.36tr, an increase of 2.21% YoY.

Other deposits represent all claims other than transferable deposits in national or foreign currency that are represented by evidence of deposits.

Meanwhile, coins circulated jumped from Rs8.90 billion in December 2021 to Rs9.06bn in December 2022. Whereas, on monthly basis, it increased from Rs9bn.

Furthermore, Rs145bn worth of deposits was held with post offices while National Saving Schemes held Rs3.26tr, which decreased by 0.51% YoY from Rs3.71 trillion.
